Sybylla Smith answers these questions and more with Concept Aware ®— a roadmap of concept development that provides photographers at all levels with practical tools to enhance their creative practice. Illustrated via an array of work by international contemporary photographers Smith outlines specific elements within the creative process. Participants learn how to cultivate an inspired idea into an impactful image. With new awareness of how to locate themselves on the creative continuum photographers are guided to advance from idea formation through application and experimentation.

BIOGRAPHY
J.Sybylla Smith has curated over 25 solo or group exhibitions featuring over 80 international photographers in the U.S., Mexico and South America. Smith establishes relationships between photographers and institutions, including the Griffin Museum of Photography and the Steven Kasher Gallery, which result in solo exhibitions. She maintains close ties with an international array of galleries with the goal of creating exposure for photographers work. Smith consults with arts organizations and University programs to develop exhibitions, educational programming and written content. An adjunct professor, guest lecturer and thesis advisor, Smith has worked with the New York City School of Visual Arts, Tufts/School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Wellesley College, Harvard University, and Emmanuel College. She lectures and conducts workshops nationally on Concept Aware®, a unique creative framework for concept development. She creates and writes exhibition proposals, artist statements and marketing material.
